Call it an “eye” call it a “style” call it whatever, but each artist produces work that is as individual as their own fingerprint.  Ed Anderson is one of several local artists inspired by all things Idaho.

Even when applied to the same subject matter (in this case fish) the interpretations created on canvas, paper, board, or acrylic are all unique and relatively priceless.

It’s not hard to see that the places Ed has traveled throughout Idaho have left their mark in his mind. Here, Payette Lake near McCall stretches over paper.

The scale of work is often not recognized in photographs. Currently, Ed’s work is on display at the Linen Building in Boise through 4-19-12. Well worth a stroll.

Fine Art

Travis Sylvester can really draw. Most people who see the artwork he has created are shocked when they realize what they are looking at is not a rich photograph or painting, but hand drawn with color pencils.

Here on the left is the original photo I took of this thick brown that slurped down a big black beetle pattern a few summers back. This also happened to be my first fish landed on a bamboo rod, making it extra special. Along the way, Travis send me a few photos of the drawing as it developed. It’s great to see so many incredible artists making our favorite fish the subject of their skills!

Cross Pollination

Travis Sylvester performs stunning recreations with high quality colored pencils.

Every photographer has an eye for different things in any given scene. Over time a certain look, style, or feel develops that becomes recognizable. Even more prevalent than a photographers signature look, is the art created entirely from the mind, hand, and instrument of the artist.

Passing by the camera, a high desert brown trout heads home.

As a photographer, seeing images become the creations of various artists has been by far the most entertaining and rewarding aspect of each of these images and their individual evolution.

Big Weekend Part I

Sockeye Salmon in the works.

What a great weekend it was to be in Ketchum! A variety of Fly Fishing events paired withNational Championship Mountain Bike Races and perfect weather provided thousands of big smiles and great memories for all. The weekend kicked off early with a fundraising raffle event benefiting Idaho Rivers United at theCornerstone Bar and Grill on Thursday night. Then Friday it was over to the nexStage Theater for SCO’s 6th annual Fly Fishing Film Festival benefiting SVAS & their program  Higher Ground. A great variety of films rolled across  the screen and the crowd responded, one film even making grown men cry! Saturday brought a well-attended product fair, with all the new goods and wares displayed by reps from the finest names in the sport. Live art was a hit as Boise artist and fish bum Ed Anderson casually brushed out stunning fish images. Apple’s cooked up the finest “all you could eat/drink” breakfast and lunch menu found in the valley, all “on the house” provided by SCO. Sunday myself and the sport of Fly Fishing’s leading Super Hero Brian O’Keefe presented a photo clinic on all the in’s and outs of pointing cameras and clicking shutters on fish chasing adventures. Down the hill along the river the greatest pedal pushers in the country locked bars and dug deep for a spot on the US Olympic team. (Watch for a race report coming up in part II).  Thanks to all who came out and enjoyed a great weekend along with us, and for those who missed out, take a look at a few of the fun times we shared!

Lining up for food, drinks, and Fly Fishing Films!

Bryant Dunn did the talking...

... while the little buddies chucked loot into the crowd!

Representatives had a chance to explain their causes.

There was lots to see and do in the Silver Creek Outfitter's parking lot.

It's a shame for those who missed out on the complimentary food and beverages!

Ed Anderson brought his bag of tricks.
