Rising Temps – Rising Fish

The Big Lost is fishing very well. On most days BWO’s are hatching and the dry fly fishing is excellent. Please avoid spawning fish in the shallows, you can still find plenty of fish in other parts of the runs. When there is no hatch try Rainbow Warriors and Brassies under indicators. The reservoir is still filling up and at some point in the near future the water levels will be raised below the dam, so please check before heading over.

Steelheading on the Salmon has been hit or miss. The East Fork and Yankee Fork can blow out very quickly so pay attention. There are still lots of fish in the lower river below Challis that are moving in. There are fish all the way up to the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery. Nymphing is still the best method and as we move into mid April the fish are still in the deeper runs. Bring plenty of Stoneflies, Princes and egg patterns to nymph with. I will also swing patterns early and late in the longer runs. Please be respectful to other anglers as the crowds are getting very big in the upper river.
