Wood River valley. “Straight up my favorite spot on the planet.”
Pat first fished the Wood River Valley in 1965, where a wonderful guide on the Big Lost caught a fish and handed him the rod to land his first Rainbow. The experience that would hook him to fly fishing for life. In his early twenties he would save money for road trips to Wood River valley. “Straight up my favorite spot on the planet.”
Born in Hawaii and raised in Southern California where he grew up in the South Bay playing beach volleyball and surfing with his friends. Moved up to Hailey in 2005 to fulfill his dream of being at the epicenter of great fishing and wonderful people. These days, Pat loves to throw big stone fly nymphs, “when nothing is working,” and finish the afternoon sitting on the back of his truck enjoying a beer with buddies and guests. Married for 32 years and has three wonderful kids.
“I’ve helped many friends learn to fly fish over the past 30 years. I love to get people to the right spot, get them on a fish, and cheerlead their experience.”

What folks say about fishing with Pat.
Your enthusiasm was infectious, and I was touched by the great care you took in teaching my daughter how to fish. She has proudly told all of her friends about the trip and her first trout! I look forward to many future trips fishing with my daughter and I have you to thank. We will return to Sun Valley, and rest assured, we will call you when we do. Thanks again for a remarkable day.Robert Sumner
