Always Learning

“If you guide in Sun Valley, you must be a teacher first. I think it is important to impart new information to an angler on every trip. No matter his or her experience level, there is always something new to learn.”

If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch,

you must first invent the universe.

From an early age, it was evident that Todd had acquired the fishing gene inherited by most true trout bums. His earliest memories with his family are off backpacking into Sierra trout streams, deep sea fishing for Salmon off the California Coast, and traveling the Western U.S. on epic summer road trips. Later on, he picked up a camera turning his passion for the outdoors into a career as a professional nature photographer with 18 magazine covers and hundreds of published images to his credit. Todd then became a fly fishing guide and ski school instructor rounding out his seasons.

Todd now spends time with his young son Quinn, who was on skis before his second birthday. He too is living the Sun Valley lifestyle! Todd is also a pro guide for Orvis and a gear tester for Korkers.

Guiding Style

“As a guide in Sun Valley, you must be a teacher first. Learning the craft of fly fishing is always an ongoing process. No matter the experience level, there is always something new to learn. ”

  • Todd was born on the campus of Stanford University.
What folks say about fishing with Todd

I've used a lot of fishing and hunting guides over the years. Todd is the best I've used. Really helpful to my wife and I. Will be back because of Todd (who also got us a lot of fish action). Thanks so much!

Todd was great, very professional, helpful, and super knowledgeable. He really knows what he is doing. And he was so patient and an excellent teacher! Todd picked the perfect area on the river too. We enjoyed our time with Todd.

Tema Burkley

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about my trip. Todd was very knowledgable, we were on fish right away and I had a blast.

Daren Nix

He worked with us to design a trip that accomplished what we wanted. He spent time making sure we all caught a fish and extended the trip a little bit because our daughter had not had the good fortune to catch one. He was invested in having that happen. Highlight? Catching a fish of course!

Since I had used guides from Silver Creek before I knew where to park, but you might mention the paid parking adjacent to the shop to those coming for the first time. Also it would be nice to give people the option of coming in the day before to get their license and try on any gear they need to rant to use up last time the day of fishing on those kinds of activities.

Gary Takacs

We had a phenomenal experience. Todd was the perfect mix of friendly, knowledgeable, and informational. I would highly recommend both Todd as a guide and Silver Creek as a fishing outfitter. Thanks for making our Idaho trip memorable!

Catriona Jones

I appreciated his nod to covid and wearing a mask and keeping distance whenever possible. I also appreciated his enthusiasm and patience with me. I haven't been fishing in years. It was so relaxing, the skills came back pretty easily.
