“…fly tying is the next best thing to fishing; it is the sort of licking of the lips that eases a thirsty man in the desert.” – Arthur Ransome
The Wood, Creek, and South Fork are officially closed for the season to protect spawning rainbow trout until Memorial weekend. And with the Governor’s statewide “stay at home” order, travel to the Salmon and Lost are off limits until restrictions are lifted. What then can anglers do to slake their thirst for fishing? Now is a good time to tie go to patterns for the season to come, alone or with friends via a video conference app. Take time to organize fly boxes, clean fly lines, repair waders, and inventory needs. Read The Feather Thief. Watch some instructional videos on YouTube or Vimeo. Practice casting to targets in the backyard. Whatever you do, stay safe, stay healthy, and stay home. And remember, planning for the season to come is the next best thing.
