“My favorite hatch is the Brown Drake hatch on Silver Creek. It was the first I had ever experienced and it was unlike anything I’d ever seen. I didn’t realize being engulfed in a swarm of bugs could be so much fun. Pulling big brown out at dusk with the mountains in tow feels like magic.”
Joey grew up here in the Wood River Valley where his early years were spent jumping in Warm Springs creek behind his house, snorkeling with the fish, and skating on his backyard ice rink every winter. In high school, Joey moved to Connecticut to pursue hockey. It was there that Joey’s teacher showed him how to fly fish on the school pond and when he came home that summer,
he realized he had been surrounded by a fly fishing mecca his entire youth and he was hooked from then on. For the last 10 years, Joey has been playing hockey professionally all over North America, Europe and the UK. During his off-season, Joey loves to be back in the Valley fishing on Silver Creek for big browns and throwing back the occasional schooner at Grumpy’s.
