Still Fishing After All These Years

Silver Creek Outfitters guide Bob Knoebel shares a few heartwarming words and photos with us.

“Still Fishing After All These Years”

89 year old Mark from Las Vegas recently visited Sun Valley to fish his old haunts after collecting memories here since 1950.

That’s right, he’s been fishing Sun Valley waters for 62 years.  He counts legendary Dick Alfs as one of his closest friends and still fishes with flies tied by him.  He always floats a barbless dry fly and prefers the tried and true patterns such as the “renegade.”

His beloved wife Nancy was Mark’s constant companion until 7 years ago, when she lost her battle with cancer.  Mark’s goal this year was to revisit all of their favorite runs on Warm Springs Creek, The North Fork of the Big Lost and the North Fork of the Big Wood.  Happily, he caught fish in all three locations.

Looking forward to another trip with you next year Mark!  Fish on!

How wonderful, and look at that smile. I have been fishing these waters for almost that long, and my dad was one of the original Sun Valley fishing guides, so I had a great teacher. He was on board at Sun Valley on the day it opened for the first time.
